MediumLevel 1Automatedsharepoint

Description

Claims-based authentication enables systems and applications to authenticate a user without requiring the user to disclose more personal information than necessary. SharePoint continues to offer support for both claims and classic authentication modes. Claims-based identity is an identity model in SharePoint that includes features such as authentication across users of Windows-based systems and... Prints the number of web applications not using claims-based authentication (UseClaimsAuthentication is not True) (expected 0). Run on a SharePoint farm server as a farm administrator; the audit loads the Microsoft.SharePoint.PowerShell snap-in and fails if it cannot.

How it is checked

Audit method: Shell command

shell
$ErrorActionPreference = 'Stop'; if (-not (Get-Command Get-SPFarm -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue)) { Add-PSSnapin Microsoft.SharePoint.PowerShell -ErrorAction Stop }; if (-not (Get-Command Get-SPFarm -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue)) { throw 'SharePoint cmdlets are not available' }; $bad = @(Get-SPWebApplication -ErrorAction Stop | Where-Object { $_.UseClaimsAuthentication -ne $true }); $bad.Count
Expected output
0

How it is fixed

Fix method: Guidance or infrastructure patch

Convert classic-mode web applications to claims (SharePoint 2019: Convert-SPWebApplication -Identity <url> -From Legacy -To Claims -RetainPermissions after testing; the benchmark shows $wa.UseClaimsAuthentication = 1; $wa.Update()).
