TMA-TDSQL-2.4
Ensure Backup Data Is Encrypted
Description
Backup data should be encrypted at rest for all backup types: physical backup (XtraBackup), logical backup (mydumper), and ZooKeeper data backup.
How it is checked
Audit method: Manual review
This recommendation cannot be checked automatically. A scan lists it with these instructions when you pass --include-manual.
Confirm backups are encrypted: the xtrabackup/mydumper command lines carry --aesencrypt (ps -ef | grep -E "xtrabackup|mydumper" | grep -- --aesencrypt) and OSS backup metadata shows aesencrypt=1; local backup volumes use LUKS (lsblk -f | grep -i crypt); COS/S3 targets enforce server-side encryption. Unencrypted backups are a finding.
How it is fixed
Fix method: Guidance or infrastructure patch
TDSQL provides AES + cluster-key based backup encryption at the backup layer (-- aesencrypt and --cluster_identify command-line arguments). To enable it: 1. Modify the cluster backup policy in the OSS management platform to enable backup encryption: <!-- scheduler.xml backup section --> <backup increment_flag="1" increment_interval_day="1" mydumper="0" xtrabackup="1" aesencrypt="1" /> 2.
