TMA-ROS1-1.1.5
Ensure noexec option set on /tmp partition
Description
The noexec mount option specifies that the filesystem cannot contain executable binaries. The audit requires the noexec mount option on /tmp when it is a separate mount (findmnt); not applicable otherwise. Host-level control from the CIS ROS Melodic benchmark (Ubuntu 18.04 robot hosts); run as root.
How it is checked
Audit method: Shell command
if ! findmnt -kn /tmp >/dev/null 2>&1; then echo compliant; elif findmnt -kn -o OPTIONS /tmp | tr ',' '\n' | grep -qx -- noexec; then echo compliant; else echo '/tmp is mounted without noexec'; fi- Expected output
compliant
How it is fixed
Fix method: Guidance or infrastructure patch
Edit the /etc/fstab file and add noexec to the fourth field (mounting options) for the /tmp partition. See the fstab(5) manual page for more information. Run the following command to remount /tmp : # mount -o remount, noexec /tmp or Edit /etc/systemd/system/local-fs.target.wants/tmp.mount to add noexec to the /tmp mount options: [Mount] Options=mode=1777,strictatime,noexec,nodev,nosuid Run the following command to remount /tmp : # mount -o remount, noexec /tmp
