Ensure systemd ability to spawn an interactive boot process is disabled
Description
The systemd.confirm_spawn kernel argument causes systemd to prompt interactively at the console before spawning each unit during boot. Removing this argument prevents an interactive boot process.
How it is checked
Audit method: Shell command
alt0() { command -v grep >/dev/null 2>&1 || { echo "step1: grep not installed"; return 1; }; command -v grubby >/dev/null 2>&1 || { echo "step1: grubby not installed"; return 1; }; o=$(bash -c 'grubby --info=ALL | grep -E '"'"'^\s*args='"'"' | grep '"'"'systemd.confirm_spawn'"'"'' 2>/dev/null); [ -z "$o" ] || { echo "step1: $o" | head -c 300; return 1; }; }; if alt0; then echo compliant; fi- Expected output
compliant
How it is fixed
Fix method: Guidance or infrastructure patch
Run the following command to remove the systemd.confirm_spawn argument from all boot entries: # grubby --update-kernel ALL --remove-args=systemd.confirm_spawn Then edit /etc/default/grub and remove systemd.confirm_spawn from the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX (and GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT) line so it is not reintroduced on the next kernel or bootloader update. If the system uses /etc/kernel/cmdline, remove it there as well.
