TMA-POSTGRES-4.10
Ensure all accounts that can log in have passwords
HighLevel 1Manual reviewpostgres
Description
If not using certificate-based authentication, all database accounts that have the ability to login should have a password set.
How it is checked
Audit method: Manual review
This recommendation cannot be checked automatically. A scan lists it with these instructions when you pass --include-manual.
Run SELECT rolname FROM pg_authid WHERE rolpassword IS NULL AND rolcanlogin; Any returned account that is not known to authenticate with certificates (or peer/GSS) is a potential fail.
How it is fixed
Fix method: Guidance or infrastructure patch
Set a password for each listed account with \password <user> in psql (ALTER ROLE ... PASSWORD writes the password to logs), or switch it to certificate authentication.
