TMA-OCEANBASE-1.4

Use Dedicated Least Privileged Account for OceanBase Daemon/Service

HighLevel 1Automatedoceanbase

Description

As with any service installed on a host, it can be provided with its own user context. Providing a dedicated user to the service provides the ability to precisely constrain the service within the larger host context. The benchmark rates this recommendation Manual; the automated check covers its objective pass criterion. Passes when every observer process runs as a non-root account (FAIL when none is running); also confirm the account (default admin) is dedicated to OceanBase and not a shared interactive login.

How it is checked

Audit method: Shell command

shell
out=$(ps -eo user=,comm= 2>/dev/null) || exit 1; printf '%s\n' "$out" | awk '$2 == "observer" {n++; if ($1 == "root") r++} END {if (n == 0) print "not running"; else if (r > 0) print "root"; else print "compliant"}'
Expected output
compliant

How it is fixed

Fix method: Guidance or infrastructure patch

Create a dedicated non-login service account (default admin), chown the OceanBase home, data_dir and log directories to it and restart observer under that account (via OBD/OCP or the service unit).
