TMA-MYSQL-5.4

Ensure 'SUPER' is Not Granted to Non-Administrative Users

HighLevel 1Manual reviewmysql

Description

The SUPER privilege is a powerful and far-reaching privilege and should not be granted lightly. In MySQL 8.0, SUPER is deprecated and will be removed in a future version of MySQL. The SUPER privilege shown in the INFORMATION_SCHEMA.USER_PRIVILEGES table governs the use of a variety of MySQL features.

How it is checked

This recommendation cannot be checked automatically. A scan lists it with these instructions when you pass --include-manual.

Run SELECT GRANTEE FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.USER_PRIVILEGES WHERE PRIVILEGE_TYPE = 'SUPER'; Ensure only administrative users are returned in the result set.

How it is fixed

Fix method: Guidance or infrastructure patch
