TMA-MFD-2.3.6
Disable Unused HTTP Services
Description
Hyper Text Transfer Protocol (HTTP) is the primary protocol over which web based communications occurs. Often, MFDs utilize this protocol to expose rich administrative interfaces. It is recommended that this access mechanism be disabled in favor of HTTPS. The use of this protocol may create exposures to threats against the integrity of the MFD’s configuration, the confidentiality of authentication credentials used by the administrator, and the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data traversing the MFD. Given this, it is recommended that HTTP services be disabled. The use of HTTP over TLS/SSL (HTTPS) is recommended in place of HTTP as HTTPS mitigates the confidentiality and integrity threats that affect HTTP.
