TMA-MFD-2.3.3
Disable Telnet Access
Description
Telnet is a protocol designed to provide interactive text based shell access between networked devices. Legacy MFDs provide administrative access over this protocol. It is recommended that this access mechanism be disabled. The use of this protocol may create exposures to threats against the integrity of the MFD’s configuration, the confidentiality of authentication credentials used by the administrator, and the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data traversing the MFD. Given this, it is recommended that Telnet services be disabled. The use of Secure Shell (SSH) is recommended in place of Telnet. SSH mitigates the confidentiality and integrity threats that affect Telnet.
