TMA-IBMCLOUD-COS-NO-PUBLIC-ACCESS
Ensure Cloud Object Storage buckets are not publicly accessible
CriticalLevel 1Automatedibmcloud
Description
COS public access is granted through policies on the account's Public Access group. That group must have no cloud-object-storage policies (passes if the group does not exist). Read-only ibmcloud CLI calls using the current CLI session and targeted region (ibmcloud login, or IBMCLOUD_API_KEY); JSON output is parsed with grep/sed/awk. A missing CLI, plugin or session fails the check.
How it is checked
Audit method: Shell command
shell
grp=$(ibmcloud iam access-groups --output json 2>/dev/null) || exit 1
if ! printf '%s\n' "$grp" | grep -q '"Public Access"'; then echo compliant; exit 0; fi
out=$(ibmcloud iam access-group-policies "Public Access" --output json 2>/dev/null) || exit 1
n=$(printf '%s\n' "$out" | grep -c '"cloud-object-storage"' || true)
[ "$n" -eq 0 ] && echo compliant- Expected output
compliant
How it is fixed
Fix method: Guidance or infrastructure patch
Remove the cloud-object-storage policies from the Public Access group (ibmcloud iam access-group-policy-delete "Public Access" <policy-id>) and disable public access in the COS console.
