Description

Before a code change request can be merged to the code base, all predefined checks must successfully pass. On top of manual reviews of code changes, a code protect should contain a set of prescriptive checks which validate each change. Organizations should enforce those status checks so that changes can only be introduced if ... Checks the default branch: at least one required status check is configured. Satisfied by classic branch protection or an active ruleset (rules/branches). Uses the GitHub REST/GraphQL API through gh api (read-only). The repository comes from GH_REPO or the current git checkout (gh's {owner}/{repo} resolution, GH_HOST for GitHub Enterprise Server); the organization comes from GH_ORG (default: the repository owner). Fails when gh is missing or unauthenticated (gh auth login or GH_TOKEN); organization settings and branch protection need an owner/admin token.
