Ensure admin accounts with different privileges have their correct profiles assigned

MediumLevel 1Manual reviewfortiswitch

Description

Verify that users with access to the Fortinet should only have the minimum privileges required for that particular user.

How it is checked

Audit method: Manual review

This recommendation cannot be checked automatically. A scan lists it with these instructions when you pass --include-manual.

Run 'show full-configuration system accprofile' and review each admin profile: privileges (admingrp, loggrp, netgrp, sysgrp, swcoregrp, ...) must match the role. Then 'show full-configuration system admin' and confirm every administrator's accprofile matches their role (least privilege).

How it is fixed

Fix method: Guidance or infrastructure patch

In this example, the goal is to provide the profile "tier_1" the ability to read only. In CLI: config system accprofile edit "tier_1" set admingrp read set exec-alias-grp read set loggrp read set mntgrp read set netgrp read set pktmongrp read set routegrp read set swcoregrp read set swmonguardgrp read set sysgrp read set utilgrp read end For the GUI, go to: 1. System > Admin > Profiles, select "tier_1" and click "Edit". 2. Click on "Read Only" option for all "Access Control" privileges. 3. Click on "Update". In the next example, assign the profile "tier_1" to the account "support1". In the CLI: config system admin edit "support1" set accprofile "tier_1" end For the GUI, go to: 1. System > Admin > Administrators. 2. Select "support1" and click "Edit". 3. Under "Admin Profile", select "tier_1".
