TMA-DOCKER-3.15
Ensure that the Docker socket file ownership is set to root:docker
CriticalLevel 1Automateddocker
Description
The Docker socket (anyone who can write it controls the daemon) must be owned by root:docker. The audit stats every existing candidate path (/var/run/docker.sock, /run/docker.sock); not applicable when none exists.
How it is checked
Audit method: Shell command
shell
for f in /var/run/docker.sock /run/docker.sock; do [ -e "$f" ] || continue; o=$(stat -Lc '%U:%G' "$f") || exit 1; [ "$o" = root:docker ] || { echo "$f $o"; exit 0; }; done; echo compliant- Expected output
compliant
How it is fixed
Fix method: Shell command
shell
for f in /var/run/docker.sock /run/docker.sock; do if [ -e "$f" ]; then chown root:docker "$f" || exit 1; fi; doneProperties
