TMA-CASSANDRA-5.1

Inter-node Encryption

HighLevel 1Automatedcassandra

Description

Cassandra offers the option to encrypt data in transit between nodes on the cluster. By default, inter-node encryption is turned off. Checks /etc/cassandra/cassandra.yaml (package install; SKIP when it does not exist). Acceptable values are all, dc or rack.

How it is checked

Audit method: File pattern

File
/etc/cassandra/cassandra.yaml
Pattern
(?m)^server_encryption_options:[ \t]*\n(?:[ \t]*(?:#[^\n]*)?\n|[ \t]+[^\n]*\n)*?[ \t]+internode_encryption:[ \t]*['\x22]?(?:all|dc|rack)\b

How it is fixed

Fix method: Guidance or infrastructure patch

Build keystores/truststores, set server_encryption_options.internode_encryption: all in cassandra.yaml and rolling-restart all nodes.
