Ensure rds kernel module is not available

LowLevel 2Automatedazure-container-linux

Description

The Reliable Datagram Sockets (RDS) protocol is a transport layer protocol designed to provide low-latency, high-bandwidth communications between cluster nodes. It was developed by the Oracle Corporation.

How it is checked

Audit method: Shell command

shell
m=rds; found=$(find /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/kernel /usr/lib/modules/$(uname -r)/kernel -path "*/rds*" 2>/dev/null | head -n1); if [ -z "$found" ]; then echo compliant; exit 0; fi; lsmod | awk '{print $1}' | grep -Fxq -- "${m//-/_}" && { echo "$m is loaded"; exit 0; }; cfg=$(modprobe --showconfig 2>/dev/null); printf '%s\n' "$cfg" | grep -Pq -- "^\h*blacklist\h+${m//-/_}\b" || { echo "$m is not blacklisted"; exit 0; }; printf '%s\n' "$cfg" | grep -Pq -- "^\h*install\h+${m//-/_}\h+(/usr)?/bin/(true|false)\b" || { echo "$m install is not disabled"; exit 0; }; echo compliant
Expected output
compliant

How it is fixed

Fix method: Guidance or infrastructure patch

Run the following to unload and disable the rds kernel module. This can also be done by running the script included below. Run the following commands to unload the rds kernel module: # modprobe -r rds 2>/dev/null # rmmod rds 2>/dev/null Perform the following to disable the rds kernel module: Create a file ending in .conf with install rds /bin/false in the /etc/modprobe.d/ directory Example: # printf '\n%s\n' "install rds /bin/false" >> /etc/modprobe.d/rds.conf Create a file ending in .conf with blacklist rds in the /etc/modprobe.d/ directory Example: # printf '\n%s\n' "blacklist rds" >> /etc/modprobe.d/rds.conf
