IBM AIX

TMA-AIX-6.2.1

Ensure at is restricted to authorized users

HighLevel 1Automatedaix

Description

at allows fairly complex time specifications, extending the POSIX.2 standard. It accepts times of the form HH:MM to run a job at a specific time of day. (If that time is already past, the next day is assumed.) You may also specify midnight, noon, or teatime (4pm) and you can have a time-of-day suffixed with AM or PM for running in the morning or the evening. Audit: at.deny must not exist and at.allow must exist (review its users).

How it is checked

Audit method: Shell command

shell
[ ! -e /var/adm/cron/at.deny ] && [ -f /var/adm/cron/at.allow ] && echo compliant || echo "at.deny present or at.allow missing"
Expected output
compliant

How it is fixed

Fix method: Guidance or infrastructure patch

Remove /var/adm/cron/at.deny if it exists: # /usr/bin/rm /var/adm/cron/at.deny IF /var/adm/cron/at.allow does not exist, create the file: # print "root\nadm" > /var/adm/cron/at.allow IF /var/adm/cron/at.allow already exists, ensure that it contains at least the root and adm users.
