IBM AIX
TMA-AIX-4.7.1
Ensure herald is configured
Description
The contents of the herald are displayed to users prior to login for local terminals. Warning messages inform users who are attempting to login to the system of their legal status regarding the system and should include the name of the organization that owns the system and any monitoring policies that are in place. Audit: a default herald must be set in /etc/security/login.cfg (review wording against site policy).
How it is checked
Audit method: Shell command
command -v lssec >/dev/null 2>&1 || exit 1; out=$(lssec -f /etc/security/login.cfg -s default -a herald 2>/dev/null) || exit 1; v=$(printf '%s\n' "$out" | sed -n 's/.*herald=\([^ ]*\).*/\1/p'); if [ -n "$v" ]; then echo compliant; else echo "herald=$v"; fi- Expected output
compliant
How it is fixed
Fix method: Guidance or infrastructure patch
Add a default login herald to /etc/security/login.cfg with the appropriate contents according to your site policy: chsec -f /etc/security/login.cfg -s default -a herald="Authorized users only. All activity may be monitored and reported.\\nlogin: "
