TMA-AIX-4.5.4
Ensure directed_broadcast is disabled
MediumLevel 1Automatedaix
Description
The directed_broadcast parameter determines whether or not the system allows a directed broadcast to a network gateway. The directed_broadcast parameter will be set to 0, to prevent directed broadcasts being sent network gateways. This would prevent a redirected packet from reaching a remote network. Audit: `no -o directed_broadcast` must report 0.
How it is checked
Audit method: Shell command
shell
command -v no >/dev/null 2>&1 || exit 1; out=$(no -o directed_broadcast 2>/dev/null) || exit 1; printf '%s\n' "$out" | sed 's/[[:blank:]]*=[[:blank:]]*/=/'- Expected output
directed_broadcast=0
How it is fixed
Fix method: Guidance or infrastructure patch
no -p -o directed_broadcast=0 (sets the running value and makes it persistent in /etc/tunables/nextboot)
