Ensure ipsrcrouteforward is disabled
MediumLevel 1Automatedaix
Description
The ipsrcrouteforward parameter determines whether or not the system forwards IPV4 source-routed packets. The ipsrcrouteforward will be set to 0, to prevent source-routed packets being forwarded by the system. This would prevent a hacker from using source-routed packets to bridge an external facing server to an internal LAN, possibly even through a firewall. Audit: `no -o ipsrcrouteforward` must report 0.
How it is checked
Audit method: Shell command
shell
command -v no >/dev/null 2>&1 || exit 1; out=$(no -o ipsrcrouteforward 2>/dev/null) || exit 1; printf '%s\n' "$out" | sed 's/[[:blank:]]*=[[:blank:]]*/=/'- Expected output
ipsrcrouteforward=0
How it is fixed
Fix method: Guidance or infrastructure patch
no -p -o ipsrcrouteforward=0 (sets the running value and makes it persistent in /etc/tunables/nextboot)
