Ensure ntalk daemon is not in use
Description
This entry starts the talkd daemon when required. This service establishes a two-way communication link between two users, either locally or remotely. This ntalk service is used to establish an interactive two-way communication link between two UNIX users. It is unlikely that there would be a requirement to run this type of service on a UNIX system. Unless required the ntalk service will be disabled. Audit: `lssrc -s inetd -l` must not list the service (count 0).
How it is checked
Audit method: Shell command
command -v lssrc >/dev/null 2>&1 || exit 1; n=$(lssrc -s inetd -l 2>/dev/null | grep -c 'ntalk'); echo "$n"- Expected output
0
How it is fixed
Fix method: Guidance or infrastructure patch
In /etc/inetd.conf, comment out the ntalk entry and refresh the inetd process: chsubserver -r inetd -C /etc/inetd.conf -d -v 'ntalk' -p udp lssrc -s inetd && refresh -s inetd
