Profile (preferred): com.apple.loginwindow RetriesUntilHint = <integer>0</integer>. Terminal: sudo /usr/bin/defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginwindow RetriesUntilHint -int 0. GUI: System Settings > Lock Screen > Set 'Show password hints` to disabled.
