VMware ESXi
TMA-VMWARE-6.5.6
Host SSH daemon, if enabled, must set a timeout interval on idle sessions
Description
Implementing a timeout interval on idle SSH sessions ensures that any inactive session gets disconnected after a certain period, improving the security posture. The total timeout duration is calculated by multiplying the timeout count by the idle timeout interval. The audit reads /etc/ssh/sshd_config and requires ClientAliveInterval to be set to a non-zero number of seconds; confirm it matches the approved value. Runs in the ESXi Shell (busybox sh) as root.
Méthode de vérification
Méthode d'audit: Commande shell
f=/etc/ssh/sshd_config; [ -r "$f" ] || exit 1
v=$(awk 'tolower($1)=="clientaliveinterval" {print $2; exit}' "$f")
case "$v" in ''|*[!0-9]*) echo 'ClientAliveInterval ${v:-not set}'; exit 1 ;; esac
[ "$v" -gt 0 ] && echo compliant || echo 'ClientAliveInterval is 0'- Sortie attendue
compliant
Méthode de correction
Méthode de correction: Recommandation ou correctif d'infrastructure
To remediate this recommendation, set ClientAliveInterval to the approved number of seconds. Restart SSH if enabled and validate timeout behavior together with ClientAliveCountMax.
