Ensure root is the only UID 0 account

MediaNivel 1Automatizadalinux

Descripción

On a Linux system, the user ID (UID) 0 is the superuser identity: the kernel grants any account assigned UID 0 complete, unrestricted control of the host, regardless of the account's name. The root account holds UID 0 by default.

Cómo se verifica

Método de auditoría: Comando de shell

shell
alt0() { command -v awk >/dev/null 2>&1 || { echo "step1: awk not installed"; return 1; }; o=$(bash -c 'awk -F: '"'"'($3 == 0) { print $1 }'"'"' /etc/passwd' 2>&1); printf '%s\n' "$o" | tr -s ' \t' '  ' | sed 's/^ //;s/ $//' | grep -Fxq -- 'Only root should be returned.' || { echo step1: missing 'Only root should be returned.'; return 1; }; }; if alt0; then echo compliant; fi
Salida esperada
compliant

Cómo se corrige

Método de corrección: Guía o parche de infraestructura

1. Run the following command to reassign any account other than root that has UID 0 to a new, unused UID (and update ownership of that account's files): # usermod -u <NEW_UID> <username> Example: # usermod -u 1234 bsmith 2. If the root account's UID is not 0, run the following command to reset it: # usermod -u 0 root
