Host SSH daemon, if enabled, must not permit user environment settings
MediaNivel 1Automatizadavmware
Descripción
Preventing user environment settings in the SSH daemon ensures a consistent and controlled environment, reducing the attack surface by limiting the customization of the SSH environment by users. The audit reads /etc/ssh/sshd_config and requires PermitUserEnvironment no (unset = OpenSSH default no). Runs in the ESXi Shell (busybox sh) as root.
Cómo se verifica
Método de auditoría: Comando de shell
shell
f=/etc/ssh/sshd_config; [ -r "$f" ] || exit 1
v=$(awk 'tolower($1)=="permituserenvironment" {print tolower($2); exit}' "$f")
case "$v" in '') echo compliant ;; no) echo compliant ;; *) echo "PermitUserEnvironment $v" ;; esac- Salida esperada
compliant
Cómo se corrige
Método de corrección: Guía o parche de infraestructura
To remediate this recommendation, set PermitUserEnvironment no, restart SSH if authorized, and verify users cannot alter the SSH environment through per-user environment settings.
