Ensure 'FILE' is Not Granted to Non-Administrative Users

HighLevel 1Manual reviewmysql

Description

The FILE privilege is used to allow or disallow a user from reading and writing files on the server host. Any user with the FILE right granted has the ability to: ; Read files from the local file system that are readable by the MySQL server (this includes world-readable files). ; Write files to the local file system where the MySQL server has write access.

How it is checked

Audit method: Manual review

This recommendation cannot be checked automatically. A scan lists it with these instructions when you pass --include-manual.

Run SELECT GRANTEE FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.USER_PRIVILEGES WHERE PRIVILEGE_TYPE = 'FILE'; Ensure only administrative users are returned in the result set.

How it is fixed

Fix method: Guidance or infrastructure patch

REVOKE FILE ON *.* FROM '<user>'@'<host>'; for each non-administrative grantee.
