Ensure Notes Summarization Is Disabled

LowLevel 1Automatedmacos

Description

Apple Intelligence's Notes summarization feature quickly condenses content within the Notes app. This includes summarizing written text you've highlighted or, notably, automatically generating summaries from audio recordings taken directly within Notes, like lectures or meetings, helping you grasp key information at a glance. Audit: Both allowNotesTranscription and allowNotesTranscriptionSummary must be false.

How it is checked

Audit method: Shell command

shell
/usr/bin/osascript -l JavaScript <<'EOS'
function run() {
  let pref1 = ObjC.unwrap($.NSUserDefaults.alloc.initWithSuiteName('com.apple.applicationaccess').objectForKey('allowNotesTranscription'))
  let pref2 = ObjC.unwrap($.NSUserDefaults.alloc.initWithSuiteName('com.apple.applicationaccess').objectForKey('allowNotesTranscriptionSummary'))
  if ( pref1 == 0 && pref2 == 0 ) {
    return("true")
  } else {
    return("false")
  }
}
EOS
Expected output
true

How it is fixed

Fix method: Guidance or infrastructure patch

Profile (preferred): com.apple.applicationaccess allowNotesTranscription = <false/>; com.apple.applicationaccess allowNotesTranscriptionSummary = <false/>.
